GB rugby league star Ward joins staff at Park

- By SAM JACKSON

NATIONAL One promotion hopefuls Rosslyn Park have appointed former Great Britain rugby league international Danny Ward to the club’s 1st XV coaching team.

Park are currently second in the table behind Caldy, but they have a game in hand on them. The winners of the league will get a place in the Championship next season, making it a 12team competition again.

After retiring from playing, Ward became head coach of the London Broncos in 2018. He left that role by mutual consent in May 2021 following a heavy defeat at the hands of Featherstone which dented their play-off chances.

Ward already had links with Rosslyn Park, as the Broncos played their behind-closed-doors games in 2021 at the venue.

Ward said: “I’m delighted to be joining Rosslyn

Park. I know a few of the guys from my time when coaching at London Broncos and it’s an exciting time to be joining the club.

“I’m looking forward to getting started and helping this group deliver on its potential.”

Ward played professional rugby as a prop in rugby league for Leeds Rhinos, Castleford Tigers, Hull Kingston Rovers, along with Great Britain. In his first season as Broncos head coach he achieved promotion into the Super League by beating Toronto Wolfpack 4–2 in the final million pound game.

Rosslyn Park director of rugby Kieran Power said: “We’re delighted to bring in Danny’s experience to assist with the coaching here at Rosslyn Park, and especially with Danny’s experience recently in winning the Championship with London Broncos. He has already added a lot of value in his first week with the club.”
