Best sees red but 14 men triumph

- ■ By JON BATHAM

CANTERBURY overcame the sending off of inside-centre Tom Best to win a thriller.

Best saw red for his part in a dust-up with Joseph Wilson three minutes into the second half, the Hinckley fullback escaping with a yellow.

The hosts trailed 13-17 and conceded a fourth try, but a man light they responded with two tries of their own for a bonus-point win.

Canterbury led after 11 minutes with the first of William Young’s two tries, the hooker the last with hands on the ball from a catch and drive.

Hinckley prop Sam Greening levelled following a line-out and the visiting forwards got rolling again to send flanker Aaron Florestein over. Kyan Braithwaite’s boot reduced the arrears before Young peeled off a rolling maul to score his second of the day, but Hinckley led at the interval thanks to scrum-half Benjamin Pointon scoring under the posts

Following Best’s dismissal, Canterbury spilt the ball to allow Shae Nixon to run in from inside his own half. James Stephens then went over from close-range.

Hinckley threatened the Canterbury line for the last pass to end up in the hands of home winger Guy Hilton, who raced the length of the field to score.
