Super Scott leads 10-try rout

-

THE ARMY Women put on a dominant performance as they beat the Navy in the first women’s Inter Services match played at Twickenham.

In sunny south-west London in front of a healthy crowd the Army were dominant from the off. Player of the match Sally Scott scored the first try of the afternoon just six minutes in as she bundled over from close range.

The Army’s lead was enhanced when Louise Dodd hit a great line through the midfield and stepped the covering full-back Chloe Sopp to score under the posts.

The one-way traffic continued as the Navy found it difficult to live with the Army’s rush defence, led by Scott who was tremendous all game. Tries from Bethan Dainton, Courtney Pursglove and a second from Scott just before half-time gave the Army a deserved 33-0 lead at the break.

It was much of the same in the second period as the Army continued their dominant performance and just two minutes in, prop Sarah Batley bundled over following another strong carry from Scott. From a scrum on halfway, the Army shipped the ball wide excellently, creating space for the speedy

Pursglove, inset, who pinned her ears back and ran in from 40 meters.

Pursglove’s fine day was completed when she completed her hat trick try just eight minutes later, assisted by another fine pass by Dodd.

Pursglove then converted her own try to take her points tally to over 20 for the day.

The Navy must be commended for their effort which did not waver all game despite the everincreasing score-line.

In the final play of the game, Army’s Bethan Dainton showed incredible pace as she sprinted past four Navy defenders to score her second try of the afternoon.

The win meant that the Army completed the double over the Navy on the day, topping off a fine display of rugby.
