Quigley finishes career on a high
VETERAN prop forward Colin Quigley ended his career on a high as Rotherham Titans completed the season with victory over South Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Tigers.
The 40-year-old Scot, right, who counts Doncaster Knights,
Beziers and L’Aquilla among his former clubs, came on to the field to a guard of honour and also kicked Rotherham’s final points of a win that included a try hat-trick from Harry Dunne.
Head coach Adam Byron said: “I’m really pleased for Quigs. What a servant to the club and it is great that he could finish by winning a scrum penalty and kicking the three points himself.
“I am sure Tigers will take that in the spirit it was meant. It was a good way to finish his career and for us to finish our season.”
Titans missed out on promotion but finish the campaign with 15 wins from 15 at home, capped by this victory.
In a stop-start, errorstrewn first half, Tom Parkin opened the scoring for Tigers with a penalty before centre Dunne raced
over and finished off a Sam Boxhall break to turn the match around. Lloyd Hayes converted both scores to make it 14-3 at half time.
The contest attracted one of Clifton Lane’s best crowds of the season and the spectators were treated
to a much better second half, complete with five tries.
Quick hands from a scrum gave winger George Tucker the space to go over out wide for Rotherham before Harry secured his hat-trick – and the four-try
bonus point – after good work from Zak Poole and Kieran Curran.
When centre Lewis Taylor went over for Titans’ fifth score Tigers looked finished but to their credit they rallied.
Replacement front row
Sim Meek drove over and full-back Harrison Astley scooted in at the corner with a spectacular, flying finish.
Parkin converted both scores before Quigley, appropriately, had the final say.
