Our Green Army will help us get there, says Creevy

- By GARY FITZGERALD

AGUSTIN Creevy feels the fantastic support of the “Green Army” can help London Irish muscle their way into a play-off spot – and clinch a place in the Premiership Cup final.

Veteran hooker Creevy admits even he was surprised by the passionate atmosphere created by the supporters at Gtech

Community Stadium in last Sunday’s win over Harlequins which moved them to within touching distance of fourth placed Northampton Saints.

Only four points separate six teams vying for the final two play off spots with Saracens and Sale already virtually guaranteed their places. Four of those, Leicester, Sale, Northampton and Exeter have to visit Brentford in the remaining months of the campaign. Only Gloucester have managed to beat Irish there in the Premiership this season with Exiles seeing off the likes of Saracens, Bristol and Quins.

Creevy, 37, said: “We’re just a few points off the top four and we have some very important games now in the league as well as the semi-final in the cup against Northampton. We are very much in the mix and it is going to be such an exciting few months ahead with so many huge games.

“We always love playing in front of our supporters at the Gtech. The atmosphere against Quins was wonderful – the Green Army was fantastic.

“We as a squad really felt that passion that was given by our supporters. It helped us keep going and made it a really good day for us. That atmosphere carried on after the game and into the changing rooms!

“It means everything to us to have one of the best stadiums in the league alongside the best crowd also. We really feel the energy that is given to us by the fans, it gives us a lift.”

Irish hope the “Green Army” will be out in force again on Friday night when they aim to book a second Premiership Cup Final appearance.

Creevy insists the heartIf break of last year’s agonising defeat to Worcester will drive them on to overcome Northampton. Warriors lifted the trophy due to the superior number of tries scored after the sides were still level at 25-25 after extra time.

Creevy said: “We still have a bit of frustration about last season but we can use that as a positive force. We have a great squad capable of doing some really good things.”
