Henderson has Fylde in sight

- ■ By BEN JAYCOCK

LEADING National Leagues try scorer Rhys Henderson has been in the right place at the right time this season and hopes to help guide his side Sedgley Park to promotion.

Winger Henderson, 23, has dotted down 18 times so far, including a hattrick in Sedgley’s shutout 75-0 win over Blaydon last weekend. Now he is focused on improving on last season’s tally of 22 tries.

He said: “It wasn’t the best hat-trick I’ve ever scored but I think the team played really well and it worked out in our favour and the bounce of the ball went my way.

“I’m loving my rugby at the moment, we’re winning all the time so you can’t not like that. I’m close to surpassing my tally from last season and my goal is just to score as many tries as possible.

“We’ve got a few quick backs and we like to play out wide at times but I think our work rate off the ball means we’re always chasing balls and putting pressure on other teams which forces them to make mistakes.

“I’m lucky to have scored this many tries as

it just happens with me being there. It’s a team performance, we’re all playing well and playing outside Matt Riley and Ollie Glasse it helps a lot.”

Coached by Scott Barrow, Sedgley came into this weekend in second but remain unbeaten and with a game in hand on title rivals Fylde, they hope to achieve promotion to National One at the end of April.

Henderson added: “It was always our target to be right at the top and to be there now is really promising. We came close last year, so I think this year we want to remain unbeaten and regain top spot with our game in hand over Fylde.

“We play Fylde in March so that could be the league decider. We need to keep getting bonus points anyway against other teams, no matter who it’s against but the Fylde game is the one we’re of course most looking forward to.”
