Wimbledon still marching on
WIMBLEDON’S march to championship glory continues as they thrashed Sutton and Epsom 42-5.
The league leaders looked fresh, scoring six tries in a win that sees them move 14 points clear.
Paul Hendry was the star man for the visitors, crossing for a hat-trick of tries, with Ollie Kitto, Allie Duddell and Tim Ridler also on the scoresheet. Ed Morgan converted all six, with Tom Boaden scoring a consolation for Sutton.
Camberley continue to do their best to stay on the coat tails of the Londoners, an entertaining 42-22 home win over London Welsh keeping them in the top three.
Jaid Wiltshire, Ally Walton and George Owen all scored first-half tries, with Josua Lewanituva, Alex Hughes and a second from Wiltshire completing the job.
Dafydd Manley and Sam Johnson replied for Welsh, sandwiched by a brilliant score from Tom Hunt to grab his sixth try in the last four games.
The team separating Wimbledon and Camberley – Havant – edged a thriller as they pipped Maidenhead 34-28.
The visitors played the final 15 minutes a man down following a red card but were in the contest right to the end, when they were ultimately beaten by a Jonah North try.
Joel Knight, on his 250th appearance for Havant, got them off to the perfect start, with Matt Whitehead, Wes Dugan and Tam Lindsay also scoring.
Banbury dealt a potentially fatal blow to Royal Wootton Bassett’s hopes of avoiding the drop, the hosts winning 28-19.
Ian Isham, Alex Garbett, Ed Phillips and Pete Boulton scored the Banbury tries.
Mid-table Bracknell and Oxford Harlequins played out a 17-17 draw in Berkshire – Ben Jenkins, Ross Toward and Adam Field notching for the away side – while down on the coast, Brighton fell to a 32-22 home defeat to near rivals Bournemouth.
