Penfold’s hat-trick puts Havant in top spot

HAVANT have gone to the top of Pool 4 after a 3617 win at Shelford as the two runners-up from the Regional 1 South Central and South East leagues went head-to-head.

Rory Penfold got a sublime hat-trick for the visitors, with Joel Knight dotting down twice and Wes Dugan once, with fly-half Knight also converting three times.

Fly-half Harvey Taylor scored a try, two conversion­s and a penalty for Shelford, with openside Ollie Walker also dotting down.

A solid defensive line and some clinical second-half play saw Harpenden overturn a 14-17 half-time deficit to beat

Camberley 26-17 in Pool 4 with two crucial second-half tries from Sam Sturley.

Fred Gulliford and Adam Wilkinson both scored for the Hertfordsh­ire side in the first-half, with Ollie Mann successful with three conversion­s.

The Surrey side’s size advantage allowed them to take a half-time lead through tries by David Cavidi, Greg Franzel and Nick Barry, with Ben Stevens getting one conversion.

However, they were nilled in the second 40 minutes.

Wimbledon won 2821 at Bridgnorth to go to the top of Pool 3 with

Syston on a bye week after Colchester dropped out of the competitio­n during the week.

Inside centre Jack Reville, openside Will Trimmer, scrum-half Alex Kerr and No.8 Mark Scott all got over the whitewash for the south-west Londoners.

Fly-half Ed Morgan managed to convert all four tries.

No.8 Connor Nicholls and props Johah Boyce and Russ Gauden all scored tries for the Shropshire side, with full-back Will Biddell adding the conversion on each occasion.

Lymm won 40-26 away at Bromsgrove to go to the top of Pool A, with

Heath having a bye week after Blackburn pulled out.

Any Rowley, Rob Mackin, Ed Morris, Nathan Beesley, Cormac Nolan, Sam Wadsworth and Ben Simpson all dotted down for the visitors.

Fly-half Nolan also kicked one conversion and a penalty.

Lewis Arnold, James Gunther, Drew Harper and Rich Hance all scored the home side, with Will Harris kicking three conversion­s.

An outstandin­g firsthalf performanc­e powered Driffield to a 34-22 away success over Rossendale.

The win puts the East Yorkshire side at the top of Pool 2, with Alnwick on a bye week after

Dudley Kingswinfo­rd dropped out of the competitio­n in midweek.

The visitors were 24-10 ahead at half-time despite playing uphill, chiefly thanks to some fantastic play with the ball in hand.

They were then 34-10 ahead going into the closing ten minutes.

No. 8 Ben Johnson, outside centre Tom Brankley, openside Matthew Jenkinson and second-row Kyle Turner all dotted down.

Full-back Ben Dinsdale scored three penalties and added four conversion­s from the tee.

Rossendale loosehead Leyton Taylor dotted down twice from driving mauls, with scrum-half Callum Wheelan and No.8 Matt Lamprey also getting over the whitewash. Full-back Scott Jordan could only add one conversion to the Rossendale tally.
