Bowman aiming to build for next season

- ■ By BEN JAYCOCK

SEVENOAKS director of rugby Adam Bowman is delighted to have steered his side to survival in National Two East and now wants to build for next season.

The relegation battle went down to the final day but Sevenoaks secured their place by dispatching already relegated Westcliff 62-0 and sending down Rochford Hundred instead.

Bowman said: “I was delighted with the result and the performance. We’ve enjoyed the challenge of stepping up to National Two. It’s been tough, we’ve learnt a lot but we’ve enjoyed that challenge. It was nice to finish off the season in a positive manner and finish 10th.

“We’re very lucky to be supported by our sponsors, members, seniors and local supporters who are part of the town. Everyone’s been on the journey, the rollercoaster that has been this season and we’re delighted to have another go next year.”

Sevenoaks winger Benjamin Adams has been a key man for the club scoring 219 points with 13 tries, including 32 of the points against Westcliff.

Bowman said: “Ben’s done really well. He was the top points and try scorer in level five and like all the players in the squad, he’s had to experience a step up and this season he’s learnt a lot. He’s hugely important in terms of the number of points he gets us both with the boot and the ball in hand. I’m delighted with how he’s gone and looking forward to how he builds next year.”

Bowman is already pencilling in plans for next season as he continues to build his largely home grown squad.

He added: “We want to create a squad and an environment that continues to grow with people from our own camp coming through our system. We’ve got 120 players in our academy every year and that’s a big part of who we are and creating our own talent and then of course we’re looking for good external players to come in who are good eggs as well.”
