Rodgers keeps his cool to seal victory

- ■ By NICK DOYLE

TYNEDALE avenged their last minute defeat at Crow Trees with Jake Rodgers’ conversion sealing the win.

Two early penalties put the visitors in Otley’s half, and a chip over the defence saw Alex Dryden score in the corner after three minutes. Ben Waddington broke through from the 22 to get a try back for Otley. Gavin Stead added the conversion, and notched a penlty three minutes later.

Close to the half hour, a break by Waddington and Eddie Crossland from deep in Tynedale’s half ended with Crossland going over the whitewash, Stead adding the extras. The remainder of the half was pretty even although Tynedale were held up over the line.

Tynedale came out for the second half knowing that if they kept the tempo up they could get a result. On 43 minutes Jonny Cousin scored in the corner and after putting further pressure on Otley, who conceded two penalties in the corner, Tynedale drew level when their rolling maul went over with Louis Frankland touching down and Rodgers converting.

A Crossland clearance landed with the cruellest of bounces meaning the Tynedale defender missed it and Alex Jackson came through to pick up the loose ball and score, with Stead converting.

A head-on-head clash saw Waddington red carded. Three minutes later Tyndale moved the ball across the defence with Seamus Hutton scoring in the corner, Rodgers getting his second conversion.

Otley earned a late penalty but the kick missed.
