Davies on target to subdue Dunvant

Division One round-up

THE golden boot of Owen Davies made it a perfect week for Kenfig Hill in Division 1 West Central as he kicked his side to a crucial 14-12 home win over promotion rivals Dunvant.

Earlier in the week The Mules had dumped Skewen out of the Central Glamorgan District Cup to reach the final with a 26-12 win. Their victory over Dunvant means they stay above them in second place in the table and very much in the promotion race.

Porthcawl loanee Jordan Skidmore opened the scoring with a try and a Gethin Jones penalty made it 8-0 toe The Mules. Dunvant hit back with a penalty try to cut the gap to one point at the break.

Davies kicked a penalty to extend the home lead before Dunvant hit back with a second try to put them 12-11 ahead. Then Davies struck again to win the game.

Newbridge’s hopes of going through the season undefeated were shattered as Brecon beat them 45-15 in Division 1 East.

Less than a week after they won the battle of the unbeaten teams against Nant Conwy to lift the WRU Division 1 Cup at Principality Stadium, Newbridge tasted defeat for the first time in 18 league games.

Not only that, it was the first time this season they failed to notch a try bonus-point, being outgunned by five tries to three. It leaves them 10 points clear of second placed Brynmawr, who ended their campaign with a 56-0 home win over Dowlais.

In Division 1 East Central, league leaders Rumney were gifted five points when Ynysybwl dropped out of their game and both Treorchy and St Peter’s have been given five points for their games next month because Dinas Powys have folded.

Nant Conwy got back on the horse after their cup final defeat by running in nine tries in their 57-12 home win over Dolgellau to extend their unbeaten run in Division 1 North to 14 games.
