Champions! Chinnor celebrate in fine style
CHINNOR have been crowned champions of National One.
The visitors made the trip to Birmingham knowing they could wrap up the title with a game to spare.
But it would seem Moseley had failed to read the script, having the lion’s share of possession for the first 15 minutes, but without making much headway.
Chinnor responded with a penalty which they kicked to touch for a lineout seven metres out.
Thrown to the front, the drive was too powerful for the defence, with Alun Walker touching down in the right corner, the conversion put wide.
Almost after the restart, George Warboys manged to break through from a ruck and passed to Oliver Curry to score.
Grant Hughes added another almost immediately with an intercept from close range, with Warboys easily converting both scores
If the contest was not already over, it almost certainly was 10 minutes later.
Another line break saw the ball passed to Hughes for his second and the try bonus, before a quick tap and go from a penalty released Warboys for his first try, his kick going through the uprights to bring the first period to a close.
The beginning of the second half was a scrappy affair, with Moseley not really making any advantage from a breeze that was now in their favour.
Once more, Chinnor managed to ghost through the defensive line and, with numerical advantage, the ball was past to the left wing for Warboys to register his second five-pointer.
A couple of minutes later, some slick handling by the visitors was rewarded with William Feeney scoring, Warboys once more successful from the tee.
With things looking like they couldn’t get any worse for Moseley, it appeared it could!
Aquile Smith shown yellow for foul play, butthis seemed to galvanise the hosts who made several attacking raids into the visiting territory.
Turning down several kickable penalties, they opted to kick to touch or tap and goes.
Isiah Walton would see yellow for the visitors for interfering at a penalty, but with that the game gently petered out.
With RFU representatives in attendance, the trophy was presented to
the champions on the pitch, and the celebrations continued long after the final whistle.
Speaking to a trio of Chinnor players afterwards, they reflected on a hard but satisfactory season.
All that was left was to do was to congratulate them and the rest club with best wishes for next year!
