from Edinburgh with the full-back picking up his first club trophy six months later.

Kinghorn said: “I’m absolutely exhausted, the boys put in a hell of a shift. It’s unbelievable, I’m lost for words. The boys dug in so deep and that second half of extra-time was enormous from us. We talked about staying together. We wanted to do something that had never been done before, six stars. We dug in at the end and we’ve got the win. If you’d told me in November I’d be a Champions Cup winner, I’d not believe you and now here I am. I’m proud to be part of this team.”

The result means Leinster have now lost three Champions Cup finals in a row following back-to-back defeats by La Rochelle.

Leinster head coach Leo Cullen was forced to lick his wounds again having come up just short in Marseille, Dublin and now London as the wall of blue that greeted his side were heartbroken once more on the grandest European club stage.

He said: “We had plenty of opportunities. Our guys have poured a lot into this campaign and we have unbelievable support that follows us around. We’re devastated we couldn’t get over the line. Again, when you’re in these moments of defeat, it’s just about how you show character.

“It was two real quality teams going at it and Toulouse were probably just a bit more clinical.”

The four-time winners now turn their attention to the URC in the hope of avoiding another trophy less season but Cullen recognises the one they crave most continues to elude them.

“Our season isn’t over,” said Cullen. “We need to see what

we’re all made of now as hard as that will be. We’ve got to process this quickly as we’ve got another game at the RDS on Friday night against Connacht, who won’t make life easy for us. We’ve got to turn the page in the next few days as we’ve another opportunity to win a trophy in a competitive URC.”

Toulouse fly-half Romain Ntamack said: “We managed to catch them, jackal balls that were really important for us. I cannot remember the team or myself putting in such a defensive performance, we showed a lot of solidarity.”
