Garden afternoon at Quaker headquarters

The Scarborough News - - WELCOME TO YOUR NEWS -

Scarborough Quakers are holding a garden afternoon with a plant sale and Question Time with a panel of local gardeners on Saturday May 26.

It will take place at the Friends’ Meeting House, Quaker Close, Woodlands Drive.

The plant sale will start at 1.30pm with the Gardeners’ Question Time from 2-3pm. The event will close at 4pm.

Dilys Cluer, who is one of the organisers of the event, said: “We need to raise more money for the Quakers, and the proceeds of this event will be split equally between the local meeting and the national Quaker body (Britain Yearly Meeting) which supports Quaker work both at home and abroad.

“Our Quaker Meeting House in Scarborough is really appreciated by the many groups which meet there as well as by ourselves, but as it is no longer new it is needing more repairs. Both the heating and the hearing loop system require improvement and this all costs money.

“We hope that people will enjoy the informal Gardeners’ Question Time (which is free) and spend a bit of money with us on plants and refreshments.

“There will also be an opportunity to swap superfluous seeds.” Admission is free and all are welcome.
