The Scarborough News - - WELCOME TO YOUR NEWS -

Dear Reader

It’s time to really talk up Scarborough’s cultural heritage and wrest the image of the town away from the loud, troublesome anti-social types, from the chain-smokers who block pub doorways, from the window-smashers who attack shops at random and from the awful parents who bellow at their poor, sad young children in the town centre. How have the ne’re do wells moved to such prominence and created children who can barely talk when they start school, and those who project their low-grade mores on Scarborough’s streets? The town of Marshall & Snelgrove, the town with an Angevin castle, the creators of the Grand when it was grand, the Regency and Victorian gems that need cherishing; we’re the town of the Sitwells, Ayckbourn, self-sacrificing Titanic officer James Moody, Albert Strange, Frederic Leighton, preRaphaelite St Martin’s – a heritage of cultural icons that can help uplift all if our cultural leaders fill the vacuum and share their vision and strategy as one united force.
