Buyer still to come forward for hotels
ADMINISTRATORS are still running four of Scarborough’s most prominent hotels, five months after the collapse of their parent company.
A buyer is still being sought for the town’s historic Royal Hotel, in St Nicholas Street, as well as the Clifton Hotel, after building up significant debts in tax arrears.
Administrators have since kept all four hotels open and running “as normal” while they seek a buyer.
In September administrators MCR, acting on behalf of English Rose Hotels Scarborough Ltd, revealed it was in talks regarding the sales of the Royal and the Clifton, and that there was a “high level of interest in both hotels”.
However five months down the line and neither have been sold.
A spokesman from MCR confirmed MCR will continue to run the businesses into 2012 until a buyer is found.
They would not comment on trading over the Christmas and New Year period.
The Hackness Grange and Wrea Head hotels are in an equal position.
A spokesperson from PWC, administrators for English Rose Hotels plc and Wrea Head Hotel Ltd, said: “We are not able to provide any specific comments on how trade has been over the holidays.
“The hotels are still operating, existing bookings are being honoured and new bookings are being taken.
“It’s business as usual as a buyer is sought for the hotels.”
