Builder hit by fine for behaviour

-

ASCARBOROUGHBUILDER found himself on rocky foundations after a drunken row in a town pub, a court heard.

Ian Lickes, of Westbourne Grove, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in The Cask Inn following an incident last month.

Scarborough Magistrates’ Court heard Lickes, 42, a selfemployed builder, argued with a police officer after being asked to leave and was also shouting at members of the public.

Prosecuting, Katy Varlow added officers repeatedly warned Lickes to leave the area but subsequently arrested him after he refused.

Mitigating, Nick Tubbs said Lickes was remorseful for his actions and keen to put the incident behind him.

He said: “He regrets it and is sorry.

“He used industrial language that he should not have employed.

“He had popped into the pub and was sitting quietly minding his own business having a drink.

“He had received some bad news and took exception to what someone had said to him.

“He was asked to leave but did not think there was any justification for that.

“As a self-employed builder he is finding it difficult because the recession is biting.”

Magistrates fined Lickes £50 and ordered him to pay £85 costs.
