Three per cent council tax rise

crazyxxxx: Staff are having wages frozen, vat is now 20% government says local authorites can leave council tax as it is so what does our council do vote in a 3% rise. Good On you I will just empty my wallet out and give you all the lot as there will soon be none left for me.

Earth Angel: If people aren’t getting wage rises and are being made redundant how are they supposed to pay even more council tax ?

Scarboro4ever: Could be worse I suppose 3% isnt to bad compared with most increases, energy, food etc. Still it’s another extra increase we should have to pay and like most people I have a cut in my living standards. I just dont want the services to be cut where it would hurt the most vulnerable

Bluebird One: I thought George Osborne the man in Number 11 Downing Street in the budget had frozen COUNCIL TAX or was I dreaming it?. As for i-pads where are all the lap-top computers?. They should be handed in . Finally... we are NOT all in this together. Many Public sector and private sector workers have forgone a pay rise, many have lost their jobs, and those who are left are SKINT.

Boropauls: Just to clarify the confusion - SBC receives 14% of the council tax charge. The 3% increase talked about at this stage is only on the 14%. Based on last years figures for a band C property 14% of £1350 ish would be £189 against which a 3% increase would be £5.63. If all the other relevant bodies also vote for 3% then that would take the overall increase up by circa £40.

Straighttalk: It just goes to show how out of touch this council is with the economic plight of the town’s residents. Firstly, the offer of a freeze should be taken. The Tory government might be a one term govt so who’s to say a new govt would enforce a rise, even a deferred one? A gamble worth taking! Secondly, where’s this 3% coming from? The residents are skint!
