Head boy Barker in seventh heaven

- Division three

DEBUT-BOY Mikey Barker was the star of the show as Turk’s Head collected a powerful 13-3 win against Whitby Wanderers.

Barker struck three in the opening 20 minutes of his first appearance, before going on to add a further four as Head pulled clear in the second half.

The former Boro striker also set up four goals on an excellent all-round day for the youngster.

Tom Scales struck four more goals for Turk’s and Dane Ramos added two.

Boss Col Jenkinson was impressed with keeper Jamie Pygas’ display.

Leaders West Pier Reserves grabbed a point with the last kick of their home game against promotion rivals Commercial.

Pier looked set to lose their unbeaten record as they trailed 3-0 at the break to Geoff Osguthorpe’s team, who have also been in top form recently.

The visitors took full advantage of having a strong wind at their backs in the opening 45 minutes, taking the lead after only four minutes through Pete Noble’s strike.

Five minutes later, Tim Boorer made it 2-0, and although Pier did respond with a couple of lively counterattacking moves, it was Commercial who tightened their grip on the game 10 minutes before half-time with a curling 20-yard volley from Mike Clark to make it 3-0.

The second half saw the hosts dominate, but it took until the 70th minute for Mark Tucker’s troops to pull a goal back, skipper Chris Watson converting a penalty after Chris Weetman had been up-ended in the area.

Five minutes later centre-back Rich Garton fired in a left-footed shot to give Pier hope, but Commercial looked to have hung on for a win, only for Dugdale to volley home after Garton had flicked on a long pass from Tucker deep into injury-time.

Watson was named as Pier’s man of the match for a commanding display in the heart of the home midfield, while stand-in keeper Mike Hyde and Noble both shone for the visitors.

Second-placed Victoria Reserves took advantage of this slip by Pier to cut the gap at the top to three points after their 5-2 home win against Albert.

Man of the match, central midfielder Adam Martin opened the scoring for Vic with a thunderous 30-yard shot.

The visitors drew level, but Vic regained the lead with a Ryan Goodworth volley.

Tom Allen made it 3-1 direct from a corner, then sub Danny Collins fired in a low shot past the Albert goalie.

The visitors hit back with a second goal, Craig Stone’s strike sealed the win for Vic.

Aaron Bryant scored four as Scarborough Sports won 5-2 at Alma.

Bryant netted his first early on, before Derek Silkston added a second to give the visitors a two-goal lead heading towards the interval.

Alma did pull a goal back just before half-time when Phil Clothier netted.

A 25-yard free-kick from Ross Anderson flew into the top corner of the Sports net just after the break as Alma got back on level terms.

However, the rest of the game belonged to Bryant as he added another three goals to seal a man of the match performance and hand his side all three points.

Third-placed Cayton came back from 2-0 down to win 6-4 at Castle Tavern.

Player-boss John Best and Mikey Dennis grabbed two goals apiece for the victors, while man of the match Scott Davison and Jake Mcaleese also netted for the villagers.

Lee Fogarty scored twice for the hosts, while Ross Bland and Tom Goodwin also netted for Tavern.
