Help us to keep great plant nursery open

-

Re the proposed sale of Manor Road Plant Nursery/and the outsourcing and delivering of plants:

In my opinion the residents of Scarborough Borough should be kept better informed by our Conservative controlled council. They are about to sanction the disposal of Manor Road Nurseries and arrange to buy in plants from an organisation based nearly 40 miles away. This nursery is small only having one or two vehicles, very few employees, probably making use of Eastern European workers during their busy periods. The plan is to deliver plants bed by bed, our council workmen will be expected to stand around waiting for the delivery to arrive via a busy A64, this I am sure will result in a great deal of unproductive down-time, no plant storage facility is planned at Scarborough or Filey.

This has all been agreed behind closed doors without any information being given to the voting public, other than the minutes recorded on the council website.

A recent meeting held by Friends of Manor Road Nurseries decided to hold a petition to stop this plan going ahead, there is not a great deal of time, as many signatures as possible are needed to be handed into the town hall on Tuesday February 28 at 1.30pm. When our excellent flowerbeds are no more, I hope the voters of Scarborough borough will remember who was responsible for the demise of our excellent in-house growing operation.

The Independent group and Labour group of councillors recommend keeping Manor Road Nurseries operational in some kind of format.

Signatures will be much appreciated; I am prepared to deliver blank petition forms to businesses/individuals who are willing to gather in signatures, I will also collect.
