Filey web surfer likes a good twitter

-

FOR MANY people in Filey, tweeting may still be associated more with bird watching than the internet.

However, one web surfer is determined to change that.

Margaret Rowling, 64, of Reynolds Street, who tweets under the alias Fileyparish churches, is determined to get people in Filey using the social networking site Twitter.

She has been using the site since 2008, and is determined to make people aware of its benefits, saying: “It’s incredible how few people in Filey use it.

“I tweet under a few different names, including my cat. Although people might not listen to what you have to say if you’re a person, for some reason they will if it’s coming from a cat.”

She has even been to conferences to improve her knowledge on social networking, and said that age shouldn’t put people off using what she believes to be a “fantastic tool”.

She said:“when I went to a conference at the City University, it seemed to be young men playing with iphones.

“But I believe silver surfers can benefit fromtwitter just as much as anyone.”

l THE FILEY and Hunmanby Mercury now has over 100 followers on Twitter. The paper has attracted 105 followers to date since it launched the account at the start of the year.
