Special event for Filey networkers
ENTREPRENEURS from Filey who set up social enterprises are being invited to a special event next month.
Theyorkshire Coast Social Enterprise Network are holding the event for anyone who runs, or is thinking of starting a project, enterprise or trading arm that benefits the local community.
The aim of the initiative is to establish a forum for people who are setting up or running a social enterprise, community development or charitable business across Scarborough Borough and beyond.
Other businesses with an interest in corporate social responsibility are encouraged to attend.
The morning programme includes presentations from Avis Turner, Chief Executive of Basics Plus Betton Farm, and Kath Taylor, Trustee of Esk Moors Caring.
David Hassall, Social Enterprise Adviser with organisers Seachange, said he expected the inaugural meeting to be the first of many productive sessions, run by and for the enterprises themselves.
“It will be an exciting opportunity to share successes, grow contacts and benefit from the experience of others,” he said. “Setting up a network of people will give members the chance to support one another and learn together.”
“The Government is encouraging people to set up social enterprises and it is important that they have as much advice and support as possible,” Mr Hassall added.
“Setting up the network will be just one area where we can provide that support. Others will include providing help with all aspects of running a social enterprise– from setting up to book-keeping, management and marketing.”
A social or charitable enterprise is a business with defined social or environmental aims that re-invests its profits to achieve those aims, rather than paying out to shareholders.
In his work with social enterprises, Mr Hassall is working alongside organisations like Social Enterprise Yorkshire and Humber, York CVS, Job Match, The Prince’s Trust, Yorkshire Coast Enterprise Ltd and local chambers of trade and Federation of Small Business groups.
