A win and a draw on the road for older age groups

-

SCARBOROUGH Ladies under-16s travelled to Easingwold on Saturday with just seven players for a nine-a-side game due to injuries and unavailability, but still managed to record a 3-0 victory.

As early as the second minute the girls went ahead when a cross from the left hand side by Chloe Bennett was smashed into the net by a defender for an own goal.

Boro kept possession well despite the numerical disadvantage, and were unlucky not to go further ahead when top scorer Chantel Padgham played a one-two with Dani Kendrick but shot just wide after working her way into the box.

After half-time Boro piled more pressure on the home defence, and got a muchneeded second goal after 50 minutes when Bennett’s cross was volleyed into the top left hand corner by Padgham.

The same three players struck again on 65 minutes to make it 3-0.

A fantastic pass by game-of-the-game Kendrick reached Padgham, who passed for Bennett to run on and scored.

After the game manager Andy Dunn praised all the girls for their effort.

He said: “It was a great performance by all the girls, especially as going up there with less players we knew it would be tough.

“They all played well, but a mention must go to Ronnie Ireland who was fantastic in a central midfield role.”

The under-16s are at home tomorrow against secondbottom side Killinghall Nomads.

under-15s travelled away to Knaresborough, and recorded their sixth draw from 11 games this season with a 1-1 scoreline.

An own goal by the home side cancelled out an earlier opener.

City ofyork Girls Football League under-15s leaders Poppleton visit Overdale this weekend, as Boro look to cause an upset.
