Under-14s up to second spot

-

SCARBOROUGH Ladies under-14s moved up to second place in the league following a 3-0 at home against Wigginton Grasshoppers, and the postponement of the clash of the top two teams York RI and Easingwold.

The girls have now won three games in a row, and although the league title is out of their grasp, a big win against bottom club Ripon City Panthers this weekend could help towards finishing second.

The game against Wigginton started very well, with captain Chloe Marshall scoring early to give her side the lead a day before her 14th birthday.

Keeper Becca Palmer pulled off a great save soon after to keep the score in the favour of her team, pushing a shot onto the post.

Boro went two goals ahead before half-time, when Emily Dowson’s powerful corner went straight into the net.

Boro kept possession well and could have had further goals, but didn’t score again until half-way through the second half, when Cara Orrah volleyed home Dowson’s cross from the left.

The girls face Ripon this weekend, and then have a two-week break before the cup semi-final against York RI.

THE UNDER-13S played two games in the past week.

On Saturday they travelled to Fulford and registered a fine 4-1 win, with Aimee Ireland and Molly Sinclair both netting twice.

And on Wednesday evening they were on the road again, going down 2-1 at Stamford Bridge Scorpions, Sinclair again on the scoresheet.

Over the next three weeks the girls play three games at home as they look to close the gap on York RI at the top.
