Exciting times ahead at Silver Royd

-

FOLKS at Scarborough Rugby Club are getting very excited at the prospect of the upcoming National County Championship Rose’s game betweenyorkshire and Lancashire which will take place at Silver Royd on May 12.

I can’t remember such an important and prestigious fixture being allocated to a ‘junior’ club inyorkshire so this is indeed an honour and a big responsibility for the Silver Royd club.

The match will form the centre-piece of a full weekend including the White Rose Dinner. It’ll be a huge day for Scarborough RUFC and more information on teams, entrance and the booking of stand seats will be rolled out in the coming weeks.

Information will be carried in our sports pages and of course in this column as it becomes available.

A curtain-raiser between ayorkshirerugby. net XV and an Overseas XV with teams made up mainly of players currently playing in SSE Yorkshire One will precede the main event.

This will be the second game between the home and foreign players playing in Yorkshire One.

Last May’s game was one of many charity events held at the club and raised over £6,000 pounds for the Red Cross to bring relief to victims of the Christchurch earthquake and the Japan tsunami.

Also next month, the UK’S biggest and best Mini Rugby Festival returns to Scarborough for the fourth year.

Scarborough RUFC, in conjunction with Breakaways Tours, will be hosting the Annual Festival for children, aged between seven and 12, on Saturday April 14 and Sunday April 15.

Throughout the weekend there will be plenty of action on and off the field to keep everyone entertained with non-stop rugby action plus games, food stalls and more.

With three home league games including the visit of Driffield on the 21st which could well be a promotion decider, no wonder there’s a buzz around Silver Royd.
