CEREMONY SET TO HONOUR...

EMINENT Scarborough residents are set to be officially honoured as freemen of the borough.
Former boxing world champion Paul Ingle and ex-scarborough Football Club chairman Don Robinson will be bestowed with the Freedom of the Borough of Scarborough during a special ceremony.
Andrew and Tim Boyes, who have helped shape the success of their Scarborough-based business empire, will also receive the accolade.
And former Scarborough mayor and councillor Lucy Haycock will be made an Honorary Alderman for services given to the council between 1983 and 2011.
The honour has only been given to 15 people since Scarborough Council was given the power to make the award in 1974.
Previous recipients include Sir Alan Ayckbourn and Sir Jimmy Savile.
Scarborough Council are set to host a lavish ceremony at the Town Hall on Tuesday, April 17, to honour the quintet.
During the service in the Council Chamber, Scarborough mayor Cllr John Blackburn will invite each individual to sign the Freemen’s Roll before presenting them with a sealed copy of the Resolution.
Edgehill fighter Ingle, 39, who rose through the ranks to become IBF featherweight champion before being forced to retire after a bout in December 2000, said he was overwhelmed by the award. He added: “I’m absolutely chuffed. “If it wasn’t for the support of the people of Scarborough I would never have achieved what I did.
“I would like to thank everyone in the borough who has supported me.”
His accolade will be put forward by Cllr Tom Fox and seconded by Cllr Bill Chatt.
Mr Robinson, 77, who is a previous president of Scarborough Cricket Club, will see his freeman title backed by Cllr Peter Popple and Cllr David Jeffels.
Mr Robinson added he was “thunderstruck” at his appointment.
Andrew Boyes said he was delighted to received the honour alongside his cousin Tim.
Together the pair have been at the helm of the Boyes empire for more than four decades as joint managing directors.
Andrew, who is now chairman of the company, said: “As a Scarborough guy, born and bred, to be recognised like this is fantastic and a huge honour.
“I could not think of anything I would rather have.
“It is fantastic too to be recognised alongside Tim as we have been somewhat of a double act all this time.”
Cllr David Billing and Cllr John Ritchie will move and second his Resolution, with Cllr Derek Bastiman and Cllr Jane Kenyon backing Tim’s standing as a borough freeman.
The ceremony will then honour Mrs Haycock, with Cllr Tom Fox proposing the title of Honorary Alderman and Cllr David Jeffels seconding it.
She added: “For some people to become the mayor, they say it is the icing on the cake. I was not expecting that so to get this title is the cherry on top of that. It is most humbling and I am very grateful for it.”
