Store digs deep for £1,000 gift

-

EASTFIELD residents can really put in the spade work thanks to a grant from Scarborough-based Proudfoot Group.

The supermarket has donated £1,000 to Groundwork Northyorkshire.

The charity will use the cash to fund a project to plant trees and plants and flowers in Eastfield High Street.

The money comes from the Proudfoot Group Making A Difference Locally initiative where a specified amount of the cost of a product is allocated to a fund.

Retailers are then able to withdraw at any time and donate to local charities and good causes.

Valerie Aston, of the Proudfoot Group, said:“we are delighted to be able to donate to such a great cause and to contribute to the appearance of the local community with the plants and flowers.

Tom Mutton, local manager for Groundwork, said: “This funding will certainly make a difference to Eastfield and work on the project has now started in earnest.

“Local school children and residents helped plant up two raised beds with a colourful mix of shrubs and perennials, and all had great fun in the process.

“Over the coming weeks more planting will take place, including three new specimen trees alongside the Proudfoot store.

“This is an excellent example of local business taking a real pride in their neighbourhood.”
