Corey sparkles as hosts gain revenge over Ilkley

-

ON Saturday Scarborough gained revenge for an early season defeat at Ilkley with a 25-17 win at Silver Royd.

Tries from man-of-the-match Corry Dennis, pictured left, Luke Raines and Jake Rollinson saw them to a 19-5 half-time lead.

Ilkley staged a spirited second half fightback with a couple of tries before Tom Ratcliffe put the issue beyond doubt with a brace of penalties that saw the Seasiders move up to sixth in Yorkshire One.

Elsewhere in the games that effected the close battle at the top of the table, leaders Pocklington had a narrow 15-13 win over visitors Bridlington, which pushed the men from Dukes Park down to fourth, while a surprise 43-7 thrashing at Pontefract saw Driffield, who have been front-runners for most of the season, drop to third.

Keighley won 35-6 at North Ribblesdale and moved into second place endangering their hosts who are third bottom just above Dinnington who surprisingly disposed of Knottingley 30-28 in south Yorkshire.

So with most teams only having two games left there are still promotion and relegation issues to be settled and for Driffield it could all come down to their visit to Silver Royd on the last day of the season on April 21. It should be a cracker.

Back in the day, before the advent of league rugby, Easter weekend was just about the busiest four days of the season at the old ground at Newby with some choice fixtures and many touring teams.

These days it’s very quiet with most people taking an Easter break; so no rugby at Silver Royd this weekend.
