Seamer face Traf

- Sunday Cup and League by Pete Spence

SEAMER boss James Prethero says his side have nothing to lose heading into Sunday’s Kenward Cup semi-final against top-flight Trafalgar.

Prethero’s charges are pretty much at full strength for the clash and also welcome back Pickering Town ace Darren Clough into the fold.

Prethero said: “It is one of those games where we go into it as the underdogs, so we have nothing to lose at all.

“We know how good they are but hopefully after all the games they have played recently they might be a bit tired, and we will try our best to take advantage.”

Last time the two sides met was also in a semi-final when Trafalgar emerged victorious 10-3 in the Senior Cup.

Prethero added: “The last time we played them we were too open so we must make sure that doesn’t happen again.

“We have to be cautious but we also want to try and attack whenever possible.

“The only player we have out is striker Dan Layton with injury, but we still have plenty of options.

“We are delighted to have Darren Clough back with us because he is a top player, and lads such as Joe Danby, Chris Hannam and James Seymour can also make a difference on the day.

“Whatever happens in the match I am sure my lads will give it their all and we are looking forward to it.”

In the other semi-final Staxton face a tough challenge whey they take on Newlands.

Staxton have been in poor form as of late, not scoring in their last three games, but playerboss Dave Bates is hoping they can turn it around in the cup encounter.

Bates said: “We have dipped in form recently and it is disappointing, but we do have a relatively small squad to pick from.

“We are hoping that Matty Turnbull will be available for us but it depends on his cricketing duties with Easingwold.

“We also need to get Rob Pinder scoring again because he was in good form earlier in the campaign.

“Newlands are strong with the likes of Ben Luntley always a threat, but we have to try and give them a game and see what happens.”

In division one, rock-bottom Angel need to beat Star to have any chance of realistically avoiding the drop.

Filey Flyers can clinch the division two title on Sunday if they pick up a point or better at home to itis its, while FC Filey face Sun in a relegation dogfight.

In division three Turks Head can move a step closer to clinching the title if they defeat Cayton while another side hoping for league glory, West Pier Reserves, entertain Alma.
