Angel win boosts survival bid

-

Town have gone unbeaten at their Mccain Sports fortress all through the league season, and if they can retain this record in their final game then it will be enough to lift the Humber first division title.

Nock and his teammates were buoyed by the midweek League Cup success against a Reckitts team from the division above, and the defender feels that a similar sort of performance would be enough to earn top spot.

“The only problems we have had this season is when we have played away from home on poor surfaces or 3G pitches,” said the 24-year-old.

“When we have played on our own patch, a big pitch where we can play football, then we haven’t been troubled.

“We won’t be complacent, it is a matter of getting the job done on the day, we want the three points.

“We had a great result against Reckitts, who are a side that have won the division above us six times in seven seasons.

“If we can produce performances like that against teams like Reckitts then I don’t think we’ll be far away next term either.”

Having defeated Reckitts in the cup semi-final, Town are now just 180 minutes away from achieving a double in their debut Humber campaign.

After tomorrow’s final league fixture, they will have to wait until May 4 before their shot at sealing the deal with a clash against North Ferriby United Reserves in the League Cup final.

Nock added: “It has been a really good season, the lads all work hard for each other and the team spirit is great. This is a great chance to achieve a double and I hope we do because we deserve it.” ANGEL moved off the foot of the Sunday League first division with a shock 4-1 home win against Strongwood last night, enhancing their hopes of beating the drop.

Rob Speight opened the scoring for Darren Moon’s side in the first half, and after the break further goals from Stefan Moon, Jason Prosser and man of the match Speight put the hosts well clear. Lewis Wilson hit a late consolation for Strongwood, who had Nathan Till in top form.

Trafalgar kept in touch with their title rivals with a thumping 12-0 win at Staxton.

Danny Price and Luke Jenkinson smashed in four goals each, Tom Adams scoring a hattrick and a Ricky Nock effort sealing the win.
