Boss Reid set to discuss Pikes future

-

PICKERING Town chiefs are set to meet with boss Jimmy Reid to thrash out a deal to keep him at the NCEL Premier club for the 2012-2013 campaign.

Reid, took over from Pete Vasey in early December with the Pikes languishing in the bottom few with just 12 points on the board.

Since grabbing the reins he has bagged 27 points to force the Mill Lane outfit into a comfortable mid-table berth.

Carl Stewart netted twice at the weekend, while Tom Fenwick added the other to help Pickering to a 3-1 victory against Liversedge, the eighth in 14 league games since Reid took charge.

He said: “We are having a chat this week, just to confirm a few things about next season. Things have gone well since Steve Brown, Dean Macauley and myself took it on, there just seems to be more competition in the squad, which is what you need.”

Pickering face a double-header over the Easter weekend, taking the trip to high-flying Staveley tomorrow and then following this up with a home game against Long Eaton United on Easter Monday.

Reid added: “They are both big games because we are looking to finish as high up the table as possible.

“It will be difficult at Staveley because they are still in the last few of the FA Vase and they won’t be far away in the league standings at the end of the season. It is definitely a game we are all looking forward to.”

Bridlington Town have a home doubleheader this weekend as they continue their quest for the title.

Mitch Cook’s troops kick off with a game against Lincoln Moorlands Railway tomorrow, followed by the visit of Armthorpe Welfare on Easter Monday

Whitby Town will be hoping for a positive result when Stafford Rangers visit tomorrow, while North Ferriby then await Town on Monday.

With just two points separating five clubs at the foot of the Evo-stik Premier, third-bottom Blues can climb four places to 16th with just one victory.
