Free place giveaway for upcoming beginners’ photography workshops
Budding Scarborough snappers can brush up on their camera skills in a beginners’ course this summer. The Summer Camera Works h o p, r u n by S c a r b o r o ug h Phot o g r a p hi c S o c i e t y c l ub members Chaz Spencer and Ralph Witty, returns this month with the aim to equip rookie photographers with picture perfect skills and knowledge.
Starting on July 17, a mix of classroom s e s s i o n s , h e l d at St Catherine’s Hospice’s education department, and outdoor fieldwork sessions will take place every Wednesday at 7.30pm for eight weeks.
Mr Witty said: “The course is designed for beginners who want to move up a step from using a compact camera.
“Those who have a digital SLR or bridge camera will benefit the most.”
The course will cover the basic principles of photography including camera settings, composition, understanding light sources and photo editing.
Students will also have the chance to work on a glamour shoot and will receive online support from the tutors.
Mr Witty added: “We will be having a talk from a professional photographer who will explain how they went about taking their photos and what is needed to make a living in the photographic industry.”

Twenty course places are available on a first come first served basis. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a paying adult.
