Learning from the high-flyers
At this stage of the season it is so important that we look after the games that we are expected to win. We have some big, big games coming up and we will be concentrating on them in groups of three.
You only have to look at Saturday’s game against Lancaster and then fixtures against Bamber Bridge, Farsley, Salford and Darlington to see how tough it is.
At any level complacency creeps in, but I’m hoping we have nailed it after those disappointing slipups against Ossett Albion and Warrington.
It is about our focus in the pivotal points of games. You can’t control 90 minutes of a match, the opposition will always have a chance or two.
We have learned from our game against Darlington just after Christmas.
We took on board how they went about things and also the fact that you need a strong squad of players.
Darlington are the most consistent team in the league at the moment, so when we face up to them, and the other sides up there, our attitude has to be spot on.
Paul Foot and myself are new to management, so we are learning all the time.
One of the hardest parts is man-management and dealing with players that you have had to leave out.
A few of them are disappointed at the moment, but things still remain very positive.
The lads realise that it isn’t always because of performance. Sometimes it is because we need to alter tactics or if things just need freshening up.
We are a lot stronger now then we were when we played Darlington at Christmas. Back then we were down to the bare bones, but we had the under-19s like Jamie Stewart in to help us.
We have boosted the squad with new players and we are focused on taking this club as far as we can.
At the moment we have the carrot of the play-offs ahead of us, we need everyone to get behind us in that mission.
