We will build on Malton tie

-

Ican’t have too many complaints with the performance at Malton & Norton on Saturday. We fell behind early on, but battled back into the game superbly and caused them a few problems.

They’re a strong side with good backs and a good forward pack, so it’s always going to be tough to play against them.

Having said that, we had a chance to really step up against them when they went down to 13 men, but we didn’t snatch it.

When we should have been hammering that advantage home we stepped off the gas, which is a mental thing.

But we need to turn our focus onto Middlesbrough this Saturday at Silver Royd, and like many of the teams in Yorkshire One, I feel we owe them one this week.

In a lot of our games earlier in the season, we felt very hard done to not to come away with a win, and it was the same when we played at their place and we have unfinished business with them.

We need to put that right this week on home turf, and if we play like we did against Malton this week then I’m sure we will do just that.

We’ve had our National Intermediate Cup quarter-final confirmed this week and we are all looking forward to welcoming Blackburn to Silver Royd on Saturday March 14.

It’ll be a huge occasion for everyone associated with the club and opportunities like this don’t come along very often. The players and everyone at the club needs to grasp this with both hands, it’ll be great for Scarborough RUFC.

I’m sure they’ll be a formidable outfit, they’ve got a good record and have scored a lot of points this season.

We will be looking to attack and play some positive rugby against them, and hopefully we can do enough to win the game and keep our exciting run going.

I’ve had some big occasions in rugby, and this one rivals those.

I played at Twickenham twice and later coached there too, so I know how much it would mean to everyone at Scarborough.

Fingers crossed we get good support on March 14 and do the business.
