Top classical duo set to perform in Newby

One of the world’s leading baritone singers is set to give a concert in Scarboroug­h.

Bruno Caproni, who was personally invited by Luciano Pavarotti to sing on television with him, will perform at St Joseph’s Church, Green Lane, Newby on Saturday February 28.

Mr Caproni has sung with many of the greatest singers past and present i ncluding Roberto Alagna, Jose Carreras, Montserrat Caballe, Placido Domingo, Renee Fleming, Angela Gheorghiu, Luciano Pavarotti, and Rolando Villazon, amongst others.

His many broadcasts on radio and television include Verdi’s “Un Ballo in Maschera” f rom La Scala Milan, Franchetti’s “Germania” from the Deutsche Oper Berlin and a Royal Gala “Pavarotti Canta Verdi” evening in Monte Carlo at the personal invitation of Luciano Pavarotti to celebrate his 67th birthday.

The concert, which is being sponsored by W Boyes and Co, is to raise funds to enable children from St Augustine’s School to take part in the Diocesan Lourdes Pilgrimage.

The renowned singer will perform a concert of popular classics and songs from the musicals accompanie­d by the pianist Julian Evans.

The Manchester - born pianist studied at the Royal Northern College of Music with John Wilson and the late Polish pianist Ryszard Bakst.

He pursues an extensive career on the continent and has already appeared as soloist in many of the major European centres.
