Paragon prize delight for Shaw and David

Pickard and Thompson earn trophies at club awards night

Scarboroug­h Paragon Cycling Clubs’s stars collected their awards at the annual prize presentati­on and dinner at the Ambassador Hotel.

Guest of Honour for the evening and presenting the trophies was Mike Williams, the current Yorkshire District Cycling Time Trials Secretary

Notable achievemen­ts for the year were David Thompson, who held on to the short distance and senior best allrounder trophies based on speeds over 1 0 to 1 00 mile events.

There was also the emergence of Shaw Pickard, who picked up most trophies with five i ndividual trophies i ncluding smashing the previous best time for a novice in a 25-mile event with club and course records along the way.

Thompson and Pickard had a season-long battle which culminated i n them jointly winning the season long Ken/ Len Trophy for points over the year for 10-mile events.

Ben Sixsmith retained his fastest schoolboy trophy, junior best all-rounder and took the fastest junior in a 25-mile time trial despite not moving up to the junior ranks until later this year.

Successful i n the j unior events was Louise Scupham, taking the trophy for most points in road races events.

Fastest lady over the season long 10-mile competitio­n was Mags Purnell,taking the Simplex Trophy once again.

The new Interclub competiti on proved to be very popular with the title shared between joint-winners Brid- lington Cycling Club and Paragon, but overall individual winner Pickard was also presented with a bottle of champagne for four wins out of four.

Secretary Elaine Ward was honoured with the McCain Trophy for services to the club for the 13th time.

Rob Corney was delighted to have won the Middlemark­ers competitio­n for his consistent mid-field placings over the year and hopes to continue his improvemen­t.

Jim McCann bagged a hattrick of trophy wins, sharing the Ken/Len Handicap Cup with Jill Allen on points and two 25 mile trophies, Ray Flinton and George Burnard cups.
