New homes in Eastfield set to help families
Homes part of plan to provide 1,000 by 2020
Yorkshire Coast homes has unveiled Scarborough’s newest development of affordable housing, providing 31 homes in the heart of Eastfield.
The 21 three-bedroom houses and 10 one and two bedroom apartments were officially named Wheatfields Court by Scarborough’s mayor Cllr Pat Marsburg and Yorkshire Coast Homes chairman Ros Fox.
The handover of these 31 homes sees the completion of a £ 4.7 million, three- site project carried out in partner- ship with Scarborough Council and building contractor Southdale, with previously finished sites at Billow Drive in Barrowcliff and Oak Lane in Eastfield providing a further 16 two-bedroom bungalows.
Throughout the term of the development Southdale utilised locall y based subcontractors and were able to provide four new apprenticeships while also safeguarding two existing apprentice placements.
The Wheatfields Court homes have been specifi-cally sized and designed to help meet the housing needs of residents within the Eastfield area.
Chief executive Shaun Ty- mon said: “Yorkshire Coast Homes, in partnership with Scarborough Borough Council, is taking significant steps towards addressing the shortage of good quality affordable housing i n our area. “This development at Wheatfields Court has provided a total of 31 new homes and forms part of our commitment to have planned and started to deliver 1,000 new properties by 2020.”
Ros Fox, chairman, added: “I’m sure that these 31 new homes i n Eastfield will not only be an asset to the existing community but will also enrich the area with the introduction of some new residents.”
