Markham leads way in Snake Lane
Fourteen members of Scarborough Athletic Club competed in the Snake Lane
10 mile race.
The race is based at Pocklington and consists of a mostly flat course on country roads to Bishop Wilton and back to Pocklington Market Place.
Eight club members took advantage of the fast course and other than some headwinds in the closing stages, ideal weather conditions.
Phil Markham was the first finisher for the club, and continued his recent good form with another personal best time of 64 minutes 55 seconds and 138th of the 964 finishers.
He was followed by Derek Swift, who was 162nd with 66.02, and Neil Scruton, who was 237th in 69.42.
Scruton was the second over- 65, and his time was the fifth fastest age- group time this year.
Lisa Bourne and Guilia Wilkins, the only two Scarborough women in the race, both ran personal best times for the 10- mile distance, Bourne clocked 85.11 and Wilkins 86.56

Three members of Scarborough AC competed in the latest Sewerby Parkrun.
Heidi Coates was ninth of the 55 female runners in a personal best time of 26 minutes 30 seconds.
Coates was followed by Shirley Field who also ran a personal best time of 28.32, and was 21st overall and the second over- 50
Liz Jones achieved another age- group win in the over- 55 division and was 33rd overall in 31.02
Six Scarborough AC members competed in the 10th race in the Esk Valley Fell Club’s Winter League, which was the Commondale Beacon race.
The first home for Scarborough was once again Neil Scruton, who was 33rd overall of the 90 finishers, and was also the first over- 65 for the fifth time in the league, and is closing in on another over- 65 championship win.
Scruton was followed by Danny Walls who was 37th, and Sue Louth, who was the first of the two Scarborough women runners taking part.
Louth was the eighth woman overall and third over- 40.
Together with Julie Clayton, who was 13th overall and the fourth over- 50, they achieved sufficient points to finish as the fourth women’s team with just two of a possible three scorers.
The next two male finishers were Neil Roberts who made a good league debut in 77th and Dave Parke, who was the sixth over- 60 and is now second overall in the age group.
