Have your say on new store and the sports village
Members of the public can now have their say on two major developments in Scarborough.
Planning applications for the proposed Lidl store in Seamer Road and the Weaponnness Leisure Village have now gone live on Scarborough Council’s website.
Both applications can be viewed online and people can submit comments about the schemes.
The c o mments will be used to form part of the planning report that will go before Scarborough Council’s planning committee later in the year.
The £45 million Weaponness Leisure Village scheme includes the new University Technical College ( UTC), The Coventry University and Scarborough Council backed Coventry University Campus Scarborough, Scarborough Athletic’s new stadium, centre of excellence facilities for football, swimming and a range of other sports and a state-of-the-art student accommodation village.
Lidl has bought part of the former McCain Stadium site from the borough on which to build a store.
The plans for both developments were shown at a public meeting earlier this month at Falsgrave Community Resource Centre, at which more than 100 people came along to cast their eyes over the proposals.
The reception to the football stadium plans and 3D model were overwhelmingly positive.
However, there were concerns from people living close to the proposed Lidl store that it would have a detrimental effect on traffic in the area, which already suffers from congestion at peak times during the week.
So far more than 50 comments have been submitted for each of the applications.
