Hopes that regular Food Fair in town will be a big success
Foodie folks will gather i n Westborough this Saturday when the new monthly Scarborough Food Fair arrives in town.
The event will feature stalls in the town centre from 9.30 am to 4 pm, selling a variety of Yorkshire produce such as artisan breads, delicious cakes, meats and preserves.
Scarborough Fair is a joint venture between Scarborough Borough Council and organisers of the highly successful Malton Monthly Food Market.
Nick Taylor, the council’s investment manager, said: “It’s absolutely right for Scarborough to have its own regular Food Fair, and I’m really excited by the potential. Food markets are a great way to encourage people to shop locally and have proved really popular in many other towns across Yorkshire.”
Mr Taylor added that he is optimistic that Scarborough Food Fair will help to draw new regular shoppers to the town centre and provide an extra attraction for tourists.
Stallholder Lance Underwood of Yorkshire Wold Sausage added: “We have a great selection of local food producers in the region and food markets such as this are a great opportunity for us to sell our products direct to the public.”
Caroline Anderson, one of the fair’s organisers, said: “The appeal of outdoor food markets has really come into its own in recent years and we are keen to encourage shoppers to buy beautifully crafted foods and celebrate Yorkshire produce.
“As the famous song says, parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme could also be on the menu as this event is the first of 2015, with the other dates taking place on the third Saturday each month until November.”
There will be a special two day market on December 5 and 6.
