Hunt for late-night attackers
Would-be robbers leave restaurant owner bloodied and bruised in street
Police are hunting for two men who savagely beat a Scarborough restaurant owner as he left work. Hassan Islam, a popular face i n town and known for his Scarborough Tandoori business in Queen Street, required hospital treatment following the brutal assault on Sunday night.
Hassan was heading towards his car at 11.40pm when he was approached by two men.
He told The Scarborough News: “They just started to punch me and they knocked me to the floor.
“I started shouting but they kept punching me when I was on the ground.
“There were still two people in the restaurant and they came out as they heard me shouting.
“The men ran away and I tried to chase after them but I could not keep up as I was bleeding quite a lot by then.”
The police were called and Hassan was later taken to Scarborough Hospital to get stitches in his cuts.
Hassan, 27, is hoping that people will be able to help find his attackers.
He added: “I had been to the cash machine about 10 minutes before the attack so maybe they waited for me.
“They were trying to rob me when I was on the floor but they were scared off.
“I have nev-er had a single problem in Scarborough before, I hope t hey are caught.” A s pokesman f or North Yorkshire Police said: “Police are appealing to anyone who was in the area on Sunday night into early Monday morning who may have seen two men loitering in the area, or who witnessed the actual assault, to contact them.
