Alternating waggler and groundbait feeder tactics while switching between sweetcorn and maggot hookbaits resulted in a comfortable victory for Nigel Hargreaves at Rosedale Lake during Monday’s seven-peg Contemptible Open match.

Drawn in peg 41, he banked a 5lb plus carp with sweetcorn on the waggler which also accounted for in excess of 40 smallish roach after switching to maggot hookbaits.

A change later to the groundbait feeder approach offering mainly sweetcorn on the hook tempted a further 5lb plus carp and numerous six to eight- ounce skimmers together with the odd better specimen of 1lb.

His 26lb 8oz winning weight easily outperformed his rivals including runner up Brian Hewitt whose 16lb 3.5oz finish owed much to a 9lb plus carp netted literally in the dying minutes. Result: 1. Nigel Hargreaves 26- 8- 0 from peg 41; 2. B. Hewitt 16- 3- 8, peg 1; 3. D. Driscoll 14-5- 8, peg 2; 4. K.Herbert 7-13-0, peg 19; 5. T.Mellor 6-11-0, peg 20.
