Well attended
The last two meetings of the St Andrew’s Wednesday Afternoon Fellowship have both been interesting and well attended.
On March 4 Malcolm Appleby told the story of how he researched the life of his grandfather who died in the First World War, and then visited his grave in France. It was an emotional and exhausting journey, both physically and mentally. Malcolm and his wife Carol were lucky to be able to purchase one of the ceramic poppies which had been ‘planted’ at the Tower of London, and they brought it along to show to fellowship members.
The talk was well-received and members said how obvious it was that Malcolm spoke f rom t he heart when t al king about his trip to France. His grandfather’s name was among those read out during the World War One commemorations at the Tower of London.
On Wednesday March 18 Val Russell gave an illustrated talk about ‘Ravenscar: the Town that Never Was’, describing how people could buy plots of land to build homes, and how the infrastructure of roads and drainage still remains, though the company marketing the land was eventually liquidated.
At t he next meeting on April 1 a representative from Street Angels, hopefully accompanied by colleagues from Youth Angels and Community Angels, will tell members how these organisations make the streets safe.
Everyone is welcome. Entry is by the Albion Crescent door. Meetings begin at 2pm and a £2 charge is made for light refreshments, etc. For further information contact Mrs P McNaughton on (01723) 369070.
