Scalby Wives

-

Thirty-seven members of Scalby Wives were entertained to a very interesting talk by Tim Tubbs on Tim’s World of Stage and Musicals.

Born in 1959 to the Rev and Mrs Tubbs of St Laurence’s, Scalby, Tim was brought up in a very musical home winning a scholarship to Ripon Cathedral School where he was a choirboy and played piano and cello. He progressed to Eton where he was introduced to musicals, a far cry from his previous experience of church and classical music, and to which he was to devote the rest of his career.

Eton was followed by Oxford where he became involved in production, putting on his first musical, Cabaret, which was a great success. In 1982, Tim joined Sadler’s Wells as a stage door keeper, becoming programme manager in 1986 and staying with the company for 11 years until he was made redundant.

He then went freelance, eventually returning to Scarborough in 2008 where he puts on two shows a year at the YMCA. The next production being Hairspray, which has a cast of 43 people ranging from eight to 72 years of age.

During his career, Tim has seen every musical in London and met many famous people but most of all he has thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Sue Attwood was the hostess, Sue Tipple manned the door; Vera Chisholm and Sandra Troughton ran the Easter themed sales table; and refreshments were served by Sue Emms, Jeanette Wright and Barbara Gardiner.

There will be no meetings for two weeks during the Easter break, resuming on Monday April 13, when Bon Marche will present a fashion show. Members please note this meeting will start at the earlier time of 7pm.
