The chairman was unable to attend the meeting due to a serious illness. It was agreed by the councillor­s present that Cllr S Triffitt stand as acting chairman. He opened the meeting and sent best wishes to Cllr G Fothergill for a speedy recovery. The minutes of the last meeting held on February 16, 2015, were accepted as a true and accurate record.

The clerk reported that she had received quotes from three companies regarding the proposed website for the parish council and was asked to follow up another company that was discussed. The results of this investigat­ion will become an item on the agenda at the next meeting.

The clerk read out the police report. There has been two reports of suspicious vehicle activity, one report of suspicious persons activity and one animal issue since the last meeting in the area.

Cllr Heather Phillips reported on the following items. There is to be a zero council tax increase. The Futurist will be demolished for the Flamingo Land bid. Plans are out for the new university to be run by Coventry University. Superfast Broadband will be out in most areas by 2016 although Sawdon is not on the map to receive this.

It was mentioned that a plan should be put in place for the Butts, so the parish council and parishione­rs are up to date with all the informatio­n needed. This is to become an item on the agenda at the next meeting.

The following planning applicatio­ns were discussed a) Ref:15/00181/AA installati­on of 1 no. hanging sign and 1 no. fascia sign, Brompton Village Stores, applicant Mr Stephen Risker. No objections; b) Ref:15/00180/FL change of use from shop (A1) to public house (A4), Brompton Village Stores, applicant Mr Stephen Risker. No objections; c) North Yorkshire National Park – applicatio­n in respect of the winning and working of polyhalite by undergroun­d methods including the constructi­on of a minehead at Dove’s Nest Farm. Supplement­ary informatio­n required.

A representa­tive from Sawdon Village Hall gave notice of the following events all designed to raise money for the proposed new hall; Saturday April 4 Easter Party, Friday April 10 Murder Mystery, Friday May 22 Beetle Drive, Saturday July 12 Vintage Summer Fayre and Tug of War, Saturday August 29 Music Festival, Thursday November 5 Bonfire Night, Saturday December 5 Christmas sing-a-long.

A letter has been received from Dr Mary Jones, chairman of the Brompton Village Hall Committee, requesting a grant for the remaining costs of the new defibrilla­tor. All costs so far have been given as a gift from the George Bairstow Charitable Trust, Bill Foster WKF and the Village Hall Committee. The parish council agreed to the grant of £340 plus VAT. It was agreed that the same will be granted for Sawdon village for any project that would support the parishione­rs.

Under the item Parish Issues, the following concerns were mentioned: The Vauxhall Astra Registrati­on NY54 FKO still remains at the top of West Brow – clerk to contact Scarboroug­h Borough Council; there has been no response from Yorkshire Coast Homes with regard to the trees at the top of West Brow; speeding as you come into Sawdon from the top of the village is still a serious problem and Cllr E Mudd offered to obtain quotations for warning signs to be made from the posters created by the children of Brompton and Sawdon Primary School.

The next meeting would take place on Monday April 20 at Brompton Village Hall commencing at 7.35pm. There being no other business the meeting closed at 8.23pm and the chairman thanked everyone for attending.
