Flixton edge out title rivals Burlington

-

Flixton under-13s just managed to overcome Burlington 3-2 in an exciting top of the table clash in the Minor League.

Burlington, who were missing a lot of their squad, put in an outstanding performance with only nine men, led by Will Webb, whose performance was worthy of three players.

The game got off to a steady start with Logan Henderson heading just over, before Burlington looked like they were going to take the lead until an amazing block from Dan King.

Then Webb hit the bar from a long-range effort, before Ryan Marshall smacked the post with a fine effort from the edge of the area.

The second half started with Flixton on top and it wasn’t long before Jay Elsden tapped home.

The lead was s oon doubled when Taylor Plant fired home following patient buildup work.

But the joy was shortlived when Burlington hit straight back through Ryan Langham.

It was end-to-end stuff at this point, but Flixton thought they had sealed the win when Elsden got his second of the game.

But it was set up for a thrilling finish when Langham netted his second and made it 3-2, but Flixton managed to hold on.

Scarborough Athletic under- 13s travelled to Mill Lane Beverley on Sunday seeking out maximum points from the Hull Boys Sunday Football League clash, aiming to bounce back after being dumped out of the League Cup by the Wizards.

Both teams started well and after 12 minutes George Walmsley was on the scoresheet for Boro, racing onto a through-ball and planting a header over the top of the advancing keeper.

Boro went further ahead on 20 minutes and again on 25 minutes, Walmsley completing his hat-trick.

Cameron Anderson can take great credit for the third after quickly distributing the ball onto the right wing after five Mill Lane players were still up in the Scarborough box desperately seeking a goal of their own.

As the second half started, both teams were still on the front foot l ooking to add to their tally, Mill Lane were next on the scoresheet though, reducing the deficit to two goals.

Boro soon had a great chance to put the game beyond doubt after Ed Allerston was brought down in the box, however the spot kick was saved.

This wasn’t the end of the all-action encounter as Cam Anderson in the Boro goal would be tested on more than one occassion.

He stood firm and wasn’t going to be beaten again.

On the hour- mark Jake Baldwin had a rasping drive stopped by the keeper, only for Kane Randerson-Wray to be first to react, smashing the ball home with a left-foot half-volley and completing the scoring for the day.
