Students let their talent shine at national competition
Students from The Academy in Scarborough and Malton have been battling it out at the national finals of a major hair and beauty competition. Nine participants travelled to the Winter Gardens in Blackpool for the contest, which was held by the Asso- ciation of Hairdressers and Therapists. Daniel Rollisson was awarded second place for his barbering skills in the Gents’ Cut competition. Hollie Massheder from Pickering got third place in the Level 3 Advanced Skills competition and Natasha White was awarded fourth place. Hollie is an apprentice at Goodys in Pickering and Natasha Apprentice at Hair by Helena in Scarborough. Other competitors included: Lorna Holmes, an apprentice at Liberty Retreat in Scarborough, in the Avant Garde competition; Dalia Rowe, from Poppys in Scarborough, in Ladies Evening Style; Lily Asquith from Scarborough in 1940s Makeup; Vicky Harper, an apprentice at Goodys, Malton, in Ladies’ Cut and Finish and Rosie Lovitt and Beth Sample, both from Scarborough, in the Fantasy Make-up com- petition. Lindsay Burr MBE, Academy director said: “For a small college like The Academy to get so many students through the national finals is a credit to our students and to their employers. “To be placed so highly at national level is outstanding. Thank you to all Academy staff who coordinated the competitions it is a wonderful opportunity for our students.” The hair and beauty academy works with local employers in Scarborough and Ryedale to give students chance to train and work at the same time.
