Malton monthly food market: April’s event will showcase Chef Gsus Lozano from the Jinnah Restaurant near Flaxton

SPRING IS in the air – and that means Malton is gearing up for its monthly food market which attracts visitors from far and wide.

The next market will be on Saturday April 11 when there will be a wide selection of food and drink from stalls outside the Milton Rooms and in Pearson & Ward’s car park.

April’s chefs include a return visit from Matthew Smith of the Crown & Cushion Inn, Welburn.

He will be joined by a fellow chef from the Royal Oak at Helperby. Both pubs belong to the Provenance Inns group.

Matthew plans to present a tasty starter during his first slot at 12noon followed by a full main course demo at 1pm.

The 2pm slot will showcase Gsus Lozano – it will be his first appearance at the Monthly Food Market.

He is well known for his tasty array of dishes for the popular Jinnah Restaurant near Flaxton on the A64.

Well-known Italian chef Antonio Carluccio dubbed Malton as Yorkshire’s food capital.

Tom Naylor-Leyland, Director of the Market, said: “We are delighted that the Malton Monthly Food Market attracts talented chefs to Yorkshire’s Food Capital.

“The market has a great atmosphere, with live music and enthusiast­ic stall holders who are dedicated to producing wonderful food to sell at one of the finest food markets in Yorkshire.

“The food market has a number of unique selling points including free parking and a lively brigade of volunteers who help with anything from finding you a parking space to telling you all about Malton.”

The monthly fopod market takes place on the second Saturday of each month and as well as live cooking there is live music and fresh produce from far and wide as well as loc ally produced food.

It boasts around 35 stalls and is open from 9am to 3pm.

Organisers have also been busy preparing for the the annual Malton Food Lovers Festival which takes place on Saturday and Sunday May 23/24.
