Pulford haul secures Westland honours

At Friday’s low-scoring event a specimen 12-and-a-halfpound carp banked first cast helped Howard Pulford secure the honours during Westland AC’s pools match staged over nine pegs at Rosedale Lake.

Drawn in peg two, he tempted the carp while utilising a groundbait feeder rig offering bread on the business end.

However it required a switch to pellet hookbaits before a further three skimmers averaging 10oz were eventually located which boosted his final total to a winning 14lb 6oz.

His efforts had an 8oz edge over runner-up Alan Creaser whose 13lb 14oz finish came from the relatively shallow peg 34. Result: 1. Howard Pulford 146-0 from peg 2; 2. A.Creaser 1314-0, peg 34; 3. S.Mugglestone 8-8-0, peg 19; 4. J.Collier 7-6-0, peg 1; 5. T.Tierney 6-10-0, peg 20.

Plaxton AC begin their summer campaign on Friday afternoon matches with the opening fixture at Westland Little Tench Lake on 24 April.

As usual the series of twelve matches which include excursions to favourite venues such as Raker, Poppleton, Redwood, Forest Lane and Land of Nod will be staged fortnightly except in June when the club takes its annual four day break in Lincolnshire.
