Ferriby glory makes me want more
Ibelieve that we have come a long way as a team since Bryan Hughes and myself took over at Scarborough Athletic. It was all doom and gloom at the time because we had lost a few games and people were saying that we were a poor team that just rolled over.
We have instilled belief and character in the squad since then, we are now a team that goes down with a fight.
The lads have all bought into it, including the players that we have signed. They all want to better themselves, which is great for any manager.
Since we have taken over we have been talking to a lot of players because you always have to have an eye on next season.
Many of them have said that they want to stay loyal and finish this season with their club, which bodes well because if they do sign then we’ll know how loyal they’ll be to our club.
We’re still 100 per cent focused on this season and the game at Prescot Cables at the moment though because we haven’t ruled ourselves out of the play-offs.
I also feel that we owe Darlington one after two disappointing defeats against them this season.
The Easter Monday game against Darlington will be like turning the clock back a few years. They will bring a few and we are hoping that the Scarborough fans turn out in force to back us.
It is an old school game and we are hoping for some real old school support.
That was something I saw at Wembley on Sunday when I went down to watch the FA Trophy final between North Ferriby and Wrexham.
The North Ferriby thing really drives now on because it shows what the traditional values of hard work can bring as a club.
I played with Ferriby’s manager Billy Heath as a 16-year-old at Orchard Park in the Sunday League and then I played under him when I was a bit older at Bridlington Town.
He just told me to head it, kick it and work hard. It just shows that his philosophy works.
I went down to Wembley as a fan and it made me think that I want days like this for Scarborough’s supporters because they deserve them.
Maybe our attitude to cup games earlier this season was a bit wrong because we may have gone into them thinking that we were just going to win.
We will be tackling them very differently next season because it is about respecting your opponents as we showed on Tuesday night when we fielded a strong team against Middlesbrough.
Be it the FA Trophy, the North Riding Cup or the Evo-Stik League Cup, I want to win them all.
Seeing Ferriby lift the FA Trophy at Wembley has made me want success for Scarborough even more.
